Moonfall is a 2022 science fiction disaster film co-written, directed, and produced by Roland Emmerich. It stars Halle Berry, Patrick Wilson, John Bradley, Michael Pears, Charlie Plummer, Kelly Yu and Donald Sutherland.
It follows two former astronauts accompanied by a conspiracy theorist who discover the hidden truth about Earth's moon when it leaves its orbit. Filmed in Montreal on a budget of $138–146 million, it is one of the most expensive films ever produced independently.

In 2011, astronauts Brian Harper, Josinda Fowler and newcomer Marcus are on a Space Shuttle mission to repair a satellite. Suddenly, a mysterious black swarm attacks the orbiter, killing Marcus, disabling Fowler before Harper can re-enter the shuttle and take control.
Although he was initially hailed as a hero for successfully returning the shuttle to Earth, Harper's attempt to tell his story was turned down by NASA and, after an eighteen-month-long investigation, the humanitarian for the incident. Error. The allegation was made because Harper's account was widely distrusted. When Fowler fails to defend him during the trial, Harper is fired.
Ten years later, conspiracy theorist K.C. Hausmann, who believes the Moon to be an artificial megastructure, steals time on a research telescope and discovers that the Moon's orbit is moving closer to Earth. He tries to share his findings with Harper, who dismisses him, causing Hausman to go public on social media.
NASA independently performs anomaly detection and mounts a mission on an SLS Block 2 to investigate the abnormality. The same swarm that attacked Harper's mission reappears after investigating an artificial hole a kilometer deep in the Moon in which all three crew members were killed.
